How do administrators keep their schools safe?

Believing that those of us who have spent our professional lives curating knowledge and skills have a responsibility to share with others, I’m beginning today what I hope will be a daily dialogue around what defines best practice in Early Childhood Education. Sometimes, I'll reflect on a recently published idea, article, research or theory; sometimes, I'll share my own experiences; sometimes, I hope to ask a question that will engage other early childhood professionals in a thoughtful, kind debate relevant to our beloved profession. Today, it’s a question: What steps or practices does your program take to keep teachers, staff, children and their families safe? I open this question to include all types of risks schools must manage, and not just the gun violence that has recently confronted the sensibilities of all educators. I will share some of my crisis management practices in tomorrow’s post.
